Grants and Other Formal Partnerships

American Association of Retired Persons (AARP)
AARP California Office

  • CCGG partners with AARP on a variety of projects to promote the well-being of California adults.

California Coalition for Caregivers (CCC)

  • As a professional association of educators, researchers, service providers, policymakers, administrators and students who work to promote research, policy, and practices that enhance the quality of life of California’s diverse older population, CCGG has joined other organizations in the California Coalition for Caregivers to ensure that concerns of family caregivers and care recipients are effectively recognized and addressed through advocacy, education, and empowerment.

CCGG has partnered with the California Geriatric Education Center (CGEC) on two exciting projects:

  • Using the Evidence-Base to Improve Geriatric Education Statewide
  • Team San Diego Initiative, working with San Diego County Aging & Independent Services to provide academic expertise, administrative support, facilities and technological services to train health and social services professionals in geriatric teams.

CCGG has partnered with Coastline Community College's Gerontology Department (http://gerontology.coastline.edu) to provide expertise in aging on grants and a number of projects. The most recent include:

  • A Family and Consumer Sciences Grant of $5,000 was used to develop course materials in multicultural aging and to hold community training sessions for volunteers at Senior Centers impacted by a change in the culture and ethnicity of their local clients.
  • A Grant from Met Life Civic Ventures of $25,000 was used to develop training focusing on mastery skills in gerontology to help "Boomers" transition into careers and volunteer positions in social service fields. This grant also surveyed Boomers and employers as to their needs and potential employment fits for those with updated skills in the aging field. Finally, Employment Opportunities in the Aging Field was the topic of the CCGG Annual Conference for 2008, with a special focus on transitioning and Boomer issues.
  • Coastline Community College is providing expertise and programming for the Statewide Job Bank in Aging that will be hosted on the CCGG website.
  • UC Irvine has consulted with Coastline Community College and CCGG to provide focus groups, specialized media services and distribute information pertinent to HHAs and CNAs to increase their communication with and apathy for clients. The UC Irvine project is being funded by a grant from the SCAN Foundation

CCGG has partnered with the Institute on Aging on Cornerstones of Care to jointly promote our common interests/programs in gerontology and geriatrics. See the Institute on Aging website for program information: http://education.ioaging.org

The Fund for Improvement of Postsecondary Education (FIPSE) announced a Special Focus Competition, Innovative Strategies in Community Colleges for Working Adults and Displaced Workers Program. UCLA primed a proposal in partnership with CCGG, College of the Canyons and Santa Barbara City College to pilot an evidence-based health promotion educator certificate program at each campus and was awarded the three-year grant (SAGE).

CCGG received core operating support from The California Wellness Foundation (TCWF) to serve and strengthen the underrepresented minority network within CCGG. This funding enables CCGG to commit to diversity and aging as an overall goal of the organization through education, policy and leadership activities.
