The California Council on Gerontology and Geriatrics (CCGG) is a statewide
nonprofit leadership organization that promotes the quality of life
of California’s diverse aging population by informing and integrating
educational programs, work force development and public policy.

CCGG Spotlight: 2009 CCGG Awards
Ellis Waller-Walker, faculty member in the gerontology department at
Coastline Community College, received the Betty and James E. Birren
Emerging Leadership Award. The Award recognizes outstanding achievements
of individuals during the early to middle stages of their careers as
they actively promote the advancement of gerontology and/or geriatrics
as fields of study in California. Ellis was commended for her teaching
excellence, as well as for her years of dedication in mentoring, training
and finding job placements for gerontology students. Ellis’ work in
establishing Respite Centers for caregivers in Southern California and
training volunteers across the State were also lauded. Read

Gerontology and age-related fields are hot areas for future jobs. The
Chronicle of Higher Education mentions Gerontology as one of the fields
