Debra Sheets, RN, Ph.D.California State University, Northridge Debra Sheets, Ph.D., RN is an Associate Professor of Nursing and Coordinator of the Gerontology Program in the Department of Health Sciences at California State University, Northridge (CSUN). She received her doctorate in Gerontology and Public Policy from the University of Southern California. Prior to that, she worked for nearly 20 years as a registered nurse specializing in critical care and trauma. Dr. Sheets is a fellow of the Gerontological Society of America where she is a former chair of both the GSA Humanities and Arts Committee (2003) and the GSA Student Organization (1996). She was also elected a fellow of the Association for Gerontology in Higher Education (AGHE). Currently she is Vice-President of the California Council on Gerontology and Geriatrics (CCGG) and national President of Sigma Phi Omega (SPO), the gerontological honor society. She is Director of the California State University (CSU) Online Gerontology Consortium involving CSU campuses across the state. Dr. Sheets’ research focuses on the health and functional risks of aging with physical disability, assistive technology policy, and geriatric nursing education. She is co-editor of Enduring Questions in Gerontology (Springer, 2006) and her articles have appeared in the Journal of Disability Policy Studies, Southwest Journal of Aging, and Contemporary Gerontology |
